Project 1 : The Contrivance of Subliminal Distraction

Title : The Contrivance of Subliminal Distraction

Description :

  • A collection of sketches and drawings that exhibit the distraction of a human behavior.
  • In these sketches the main subject of the content is often a woman which symbolizes sexual desire of the male species which is often the primary subconscious motivation and influences that contribute in the actions of individuals.
  • The content of the women in the sketches also posed in an alluring seductive manner to further embodies the sexual desire.
  • The female subject in the works are also perfectly modeled into the general perspective of an ideal body of a women which symbolizes the desire of perfection in both gender.

Objective (What I'm trying to do) :

  • To showcase the immense subjects of distraction that often influence the audience subconscious mind in a subliminal manner.
  • Acceptable surrounding that distract the mind to be in a confuse state.
  • The subject of the showcase would be in overwhelming state where a single material is blend alongside its counterparts to execute the subliminal delivery.
  • When the audience look at the overwhelming collage of the artworks and focused on just one of the materials, i wished to shed light on the subject in their subliminal state.

Techniques : Imprinting selected artworks that delivers the desired message, from collages and sketching.

Sketching :
- The sketching technique is used to ensure the proper content is deliver.
- The sketching was done using marker while the content are purely based on the imagery of my mind with influences of medias through out my daily activity.
- I choose the method of sketching a black and white instead of a colorful painting for it shows that the nature of these subconscious art portray their subliminal messages  in a less eye catchy manner in order to avoid the conscious mind attention.
- The technique of sketching these subject can be seen as a metaphor for these subliminal distraction which are often overlook by our conscious mind for their vague nature.
- The sketching of the content is also a metaphor for it inst necessarily complete because these subjects of distraction can be easily be rendered into a different state of medium which would gain attention of the conscious mind.
-Overall sketching of the content shows that a subliminal message is often vague but yet easily be set into a medium that attracts our alert mind.

Collage :
-derived from the french word 'à coller' which means 'to glue'
-a style where the artwork contain an assemblage of different forms and types of materials creating a singles mixture of a whole new material.
-The technique of college is used in this project to adds a new perspective on the relation between sketches and sculpture, it gave a medium some of the characteristics of the other.
- Furthermore, this technique will add fragmented medias into a single work that brings a referencing content of that particular culture into the art.
- Thus this shows a juxtaposing style of reality and the illusion that i wished to portray.

Research on similiar:
For this project the similar artist that i have researched on are :

1) Dennis Mcnett
- born in 1972 and raised in Virginia Beach before moving to New York in 2001.
- His artwork ranges from wood carving, prints, designs, sculpture and many more.
- The influences in his content often portrays a raw punk rock energy, Nordic resurrections as well as skateboarding scene of the early 80's.
- His artworks of collage on woods shows a perfect symmetrical usage of space and blends the subjects into a contrasting vignette.
- The designs used in his collage are simple and symbolic which often works in a pattern that could easily hides subliminal messages.
- He has mastered the skills of collage into a beautiful patterned design is a guidance for my project in order to truly execute the content subliminal manner.

2) RONE
-Born in 1980 in the streets of Melbourne.
- A notable street artist that depicts the influences of 80s and 90s, skateboarding scene, video games and fashion, alongside contents of Shepard Fairey and Banksy in his artworks.
- His artwork ranges from designs, street graffiti, installation, stencils and collages
- In his street collages on public walls, he often depicts contents of a beautiful female face hidden behind layers of other materials which to the subliminal influences of sexual desire
- His collage design are often can be considered messy with decaying materials and excessive usage of paints and glue but yet audience are attracted to this style due to the hidden beauty underneath, this method is used to truly embodies his intended message
- Thus, his skills and creativity of hidden subliminal messages in his collage are a great guidance to my project to execute the intention of sexual desire content.

3) MAUS by Art Spiegelman
- Maus is a graphic novel created by the american cartoonist Art spiegelman which depicts his experiences as a Polish Jew in the Holocaust of the World War 2.
- The content of the comic revolves around the characterization of races into animals such as mouses and cats.
- Though the characters are basically animals but it is ingeniously design to add a human element that almost diminishes the counterpart of its animal state.
- The style of the drawings of the characters shows a dark and more matured cartoon which plays with the structure and shadings of the content to bring a unique blend of comic
- The style and skills used by Art Spiegelman in the graphic novel Maus, is a primary influence in the sketching techniques of my contents.

Philosophy and Theory :
The main philosophy that which to be portray is the understanding of Exotischism.

- Exotischism is the idea that every individual from birth begins to absorb subconscious information of the environment to enable better connectivity among society.
- In this project we wish to show how people could control these subconscious information to produce their agenda through subliminal messages.
- A sub-philosophy to be explore in the project is the conceptual and normative understanding of sexuality.
- From conceptual analysis of sexual desire and activity to the normative inquires of sexual pleasure and ethics.
- Sexual Desires are the primary influences of human society and there is an understanding that the sexual desires often shows in the subliminal medias to attract our subconscious mind.
 - This project theory is that every individual are influenced and distracted by these subliminal information which often contains sexual desire.

It is sexual energy which governs the structure of human feeling and thinking. - Wilhelm Reich

Evaluation :
- In conclusion, to truly execute my project to showcase the distracting sexual desire in the subliminal manner, i have used the techniques of sketches and collage.
-  The sketches techniques uses symbolizes the vague and uncertainty of subconscious information while the female figure content of the sketch represent the sexual desire of human society.
- The collage method of collecting the sketches is to truly add the subliminal effect by concealing the content with its counterparts in a contrasting pattern.
